Care guides by floor type
Carpet
- Hoover new carpet often in the first few weeks: loose fibres (shedding) are normal and settle down.
- Snip any sprouting tufts level with scissors. Never pull them.
- Blot spills straight away with a clean white cloth. Don’t rub.
- Use doormats at outside doors to stop grit wearing the pile.
- Put castor cups under heavy furniture and move it now and then.
- Pile shading and rucking marks from furniture usually ease within weeks.
Vinyl & LVT
- Sweep or vacuum (hard-floor setting) to remove grit.
- Mop with a damp, not soaking, mop and a pH-neutral cleaner.
- No bleach, wax, polish or steam mops unless the maker says it’s fine.
- Fit felt pads to chair and table legs.
- Avoid rubber-backed mats, which can stain vinyl.
- Keep heavy appliances off for [24 hours] after a glue-down fit.
- Use blinds in strong sun to reduce fading.
Laminate & engineered wood
- Sweep or vacuum (hard-floor setting) regularly.
- Clean with a well-wrung mop. Never leave standing water.
- Wipe spills up straight away.
- Use felt pads under furniture legs.
- Use the cleaner the maker recommends; no steam mops.
- Keep rooms aired: wood can move a little with heat and humidity.
