Compare the floors we fit
| Floor | Best for | Strengths | Things to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carpet | Bedrooms, living rooms, stairs and landings | Warm, soft and quiet | Not for wet rooms; needs regular vacuuming |
| Vinyl | Kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms | Waterproof, warm and affordable | Needs a smooth, level subfloor |
| LVT | Kitchens, hallways, open-plan rooms | Realistic wood or stone looks, waterproof planks | Needs a level subfloor; costs more than sheet vinyl |
| Laminate | Living rooms, hallways, bedrooms | Good-value wood look, hard-wearing | Not usually recommended for bathrooms |
| Engineered wood | Living rooms, hallways, dining rooms | Real wood surface on a stable core | Needs acclimatising; avoid very wet areas |
Choosing a carpet
- Twist pile: hard-wearing and a good all-rounder for stairs and family rooms.
- Loop pile: tough and textured, though pet claws can catch.
- Saxony: deep and soft, best in bedrooms.
- Ask about stain-resistant ranges if you have pets or young children.
LVT, laminate or vinyl?
- Wet rooms: vinyl or LVT, with sealed edges.
- Best value wood look: laminate.
- Most realistic looks: LVT, click or glue-down.
- All three need a flat subfloor, which we check and prepare first.
